BioWare's "Dragon Age: Inquisition" has revealed their first gay character in the franchise history.

Gamers will eventually met Dorian, a mage from the Tevinter Imperium, who happens to be openly gay. In an interview with "Dragon Age: Inquisition" official website, writer David Gaider provided insight to the new character.

"Dorian is gay-he is, in fact, the first fully gay character I've had the opportunity to write," Gaider said. "It added an interesting dimension to his back story, considering he comes from a place where 'perfection' is the face that every mage puts on and anything that smacks of deviancy is shameful and meant to be hidden. Dorian's refusal to play along with that façade is seen as stubborn and pointless by his family, which has contributed to his status as a pariah."

Gaider explained to the official "Dragon Age" website he is happy he was able to make him "controversial" character for the upcoming game. The writer acknowledged the process of creating Dorian was "personal experience," but he had fun with the character.

"Dorian is smart-perhaps too smart for his own good, really," Gaider said. "He was raised in a society where both intelligence and wit are prized, where advancing yourself socially means outmaneuvering your peers, and he does so quite well... or, at least, he would if he didn't see through it all. That's left him rather jaded and sarcastic, naturally."

Though fans were excited to see an openly gay character, Gaider's comment about Dorian being "fully gay" outraged others. Some fans took the "fully gay" comment as a dig to bisexuality, but Gaider took to Twitter to clear up the confusion.

"Dragon Age: Inquisition" will launch in North America on Oct. 7 for the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
