A few weeks ago, photos surfaced from the set of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" that showed the beginnings of a gigantic Superman statue erected in Metropolis. It wasn't clear what the statue was for, but now new photos have emerged that could reveal a major plot spoiler for Zack Snyder's upcoming film.

Warning: Before you continue reading or look at the photos, the following information could be a spoiler for "Batman v Superman."

In the new photos, published by a Michigan blog, it looks like the Superman statue might have been destroyed. Where the towering sculpture once stood is now a bunch of rubble surrounded by police officers, EMTs, firemen and somber-looking civilians holding either flowers or small Superman statues.

A couple of the photos also included men placing large bouquets of flowers by the statue. Here's what Latino Review speculated from the photos: "[it looks] as if they're turning the downed statue into a memorial site for Superman."

The only reason a memorial site would be needed is if Superman was killed in the upcoming film.  This is not the first time there have been hints of Superman being "killed" in "Dawn of Justice." It was previously rumored that the movie could take a few plot points from the 1992 storyline "The Death of Superman."

In the comic, the superhero died in a battle with Doomsday. Superman only stayed dead for a couple months but the funeral was an opportunity to introduce other superheroes. There has also been buzz that Doomsday would make an appearance in Snyder's film.

At the time Jason Momoa was linked to the role, but he has now been rumored to play Aquaman.

"How's that for an ending? Superman dies, leading to a huge, Superhero-introducing (and Justice League-creating) funeral - setting up the Justice League movie, and placing the emphasis on the newly introduced DC characters," MoviePilot.com wrote.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is set for a May 6, 2016 release date.
