Google is on a high as its Android KitKat now powers 13.6 percent of all Android devices, reducing the Jelly Bean population below 60 percent.

Google, the biggest provider of internet search and mobile OS, is pushing its KitKat roll-out as more devices are getting updated to the latest Android version. The web giant updated its Platform Versions page with new statistics that put Android 4.4 KitKat just behind Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread. Jelly Bean has been leading the pack for a long time now, displacing Gingerbread.

Google launched the Android 4.4 KitKat in October last year alongside Nexus 5. The update was only pushed to selected handsets, including Motorola and Google Play Edition smartphones. Other tech companies lined up their flagship smartphones with the KitKat update, boosting its presence. But the adoption rate for KitKat had been significantly slow since its roll-out.

In January, KitKat was found only on 1.4 percent of Android devices, while Jelly Bean and Gingerbread took the lion's share of over 80 percent together. Even till April, the KitKat version of Android was found on just 5.3 percent, while Jelly Bean powered 61.4 percent of Android devices alone. Google's statistics till May 1 showed that KitKat had slightly improved, a 3.2 percent hike since April 1. This time around, as Google updated its statistics for the 7-day period ending June 4, KitKat adoption had risen to its all-time high, 5.1 percent.

With the rising KitKat adoption, it is also seen that the Jelly Bean is slowly losing its presence, which is obvious considering high-end smartphones get updated to the latest Android OS. As of June 4, Android Jelly Bean stands at 58.4 percent, which is by far the highest. But taking into account the individual percentage, Android 4.1 dropped 4.5 percent between May and June, while Android 4.2 and 4.3 gained 0.3 percent and 1.8 percent, respectively.

Google's latest statistics conclude by placing Jelly Bean on top of the list once again, while puts Gingerbread in second place at 16.2 percent. Then comes Ice Cream Sandwich with 13.4 percent followed by KitKat. Finally, Froyo slipped 0.2 percent since its last update, at 0.8 percent, while Honeycomb is stagnant at 0.1 percent.
