Apple's iOS7 is rapidly gaining popularity among Apple customers with almost 90 percent iPhone users and 85 percent iPad users running the latest mobile OS in the US and Canada.

Apple OS adoption rate is better than any other OS in the market, mainly because the company offers free upgrades to the latest OS be it mobile or desktop OS. The market research analytics company, Chitika Insights, says the iOS7 adoption rate and has seen a significant spike since its last study in February. According to the firm's data, 89.7 percent of iPhone devices in the US and Canada run the latest iOS7 while iPad numbers are comparatively low at 84.8 percent.

The new data shows a significant increase in the adoption rate for both Apple devices, mainly for the iPads, which have increased 6.3 percent over the past quarter ending May. In February, Apple iPad users running the iOS7 mobile platform accounted for 78.5 percent and iPhone users had 83.3 percent, which is a 5.4 percent increase during the same period.

The new findings come just a week ahead of Apple's purported debut of iOS8 at the Worldwide Developer Conference, starting Monday. Comparing the current statistics of iOS7 with iOS6 just ahead of the WWDC last year, the former flagship mobile OS was found on 92.7 percent of iPhones and 82.9 percent of iPads. The increase in updating iPads with the latest OS is seen as a users' growing interest in the category. To honor that, Apple released two new iPads in October, the new iPad Air and most-awaited iPad Mini with Retina display.

As for Apple's chief rival Google, Android KitKat adoption has been significantly low. In January, Android KitKat powered only 1.4 percent of Android devices and its current statistics show that it is now found on 8.5 percent of devices across the world. The data captured by Google is during a 7-day period ending May 1. Android Jelly Bean is still the dominant OS in Google's ecosystem, which represents 60.8 percent of all Android phones.

Apple's statistics until April 6 showed that the iOS7 is found on 87 percent of iPhones and iPads visiting iTunes Store, a quick rise from 78 percent in January and 83 percent in March. The current data on the Apple Developers page shows iOS7 is found on 88 percent of all iDevices and iOS6 represent a mere 10 percent.

Chitika Insights' statistics are based on analysis of tens of millions of US and Canadian online ad impressions from iPhones and iPads during May 22 and May 28.
