Sony announced a new milestone for its best-selling PlayStation 4 console that has surpassed 7 million sold units worldwide since the launch, but the supply problems continue to exist.

Sony's success with its latest PlayStation 4 gaming console is undeniable. The electronics giant announced yet another milestone for the critically acclaimed PS4 that has sold more than 7 million units across the globe since its launch in November, last year. Sony's next-gen gaming console has witnessed a continuous growth in the industry, it even outdid its rival Xbox One.

In an official press release, Thursday, Sony confirmed it sold 7 million units of the PS4 as of April 6 and aims at a steady growth. But the Japanese conglomerate has time and again expressed the difficulty in meeting the growing demand of the consumers. Sony's Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, highlighted the continued problems with the supply in the latest press announcement.

"The response from the global gaming community for PS4 has been overwhelming and we are truly humbled that gamers are selecting PS4 as their next generation console of choice," House said in a press release, Thursday. "The PS4 journey has just begun, and although we are still facing difficulties keeping up with the strong demand worldwide, we remain steadfast in our commitment to meet the needs of our customers, and surpassing the wildest expectations of gamers by delivering new user experiences that inspire and engage."

More than 1 million units were sold on the first day of its launch in the U.S. and Canada late last year. Following the trend, the company finally surpassed its target of 5 million units in February, which Sony projected to happen by March. In a month, Sony added another million to its PS4 sales report, crossing 6 million in early March. And now, the company leads with a massive 7-million figure in the gaming industry.

As a part of the new achievement, Sony mentioned the gaming portfolio will expand massively with nearly 120 titles. The list will include popular games like Destiny, Watch_Dogs, Alien: Isolation and more. Another big news for PS4 owners was announced last month when a Turkish website Multiplayer reported PlayStation's Eurasian Software Market Manager Sercan Sulun confirming the arrival of last year's award winning title "The Last Of Us" coming to PS4. The news was later confirmed by Sony in a blog post earlier this month.

For Sony, meeting the growing demand for PS4 remains an unsolved matter. The gaming console is currently available in 72 countries worldwide.
