Gillian Flynn's film adaptation of her best-selling novel "Gone Girl" has released its first preview trailer.

"Gone Girl" stars Ben Affleck as Nick Dunne and Rosamund Pike as his beautiful wife Amy, who goes missing soon after the couple's anniversary. The couple is a pair of "out-of-work" magazine writers who decided to up root their lives from New York City to the Midwest. You can check out the official movie synopsis below:

"GONE GIRL -- directed by David Fincher and based upon the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn -- unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?"

Affleck and Pike made their first appearance as Nick and Rosamund on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. The image shows "Nick" cuddling up to his wife's lifeless body. In the Jan. 10 issue of EW, director David Fincher explained to the magazine why he takes one such "unconventional" characters in his films.

"I don't know what 'likable' is. I know people who are doting parents, who give to charity, drive Priuses, all those things, who are insufferable a-ā€Š-holes," Fincher told EW. "I like people who get sā€Š-ā€Š-ā€Š- done."

Fincher also told the magazine people have become too connected with the "source materials," meaning audience try to follow the novel in their minds as they watch the films. According to EW, the film will through a "curve balls" at the audience, even for those whom have already read the novel. "Gone Girl" is slated to hit theaters on Oct. 3.
