Marvel's top secret film slated to compete at the box office with DC's highly anticipated "Batman vs. Superman" title on May 6, 2016 has been revealed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel's secret weapon is none other than "Captain America 3."  The first "Captain America" grossed more than $370 million worldwide, but the second installment in the franchise is expected to double the previous sales.

"That's the plan, anyway, creating the biggest superhero box office showdown in history," THR reports.  "...Shooting schedules and postproduction could always impact the current blueprint, however. Also, Marvel and Disney have a second untitled movie scheduled to open that summer on July 8, so there is wiggle room."

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently explained to IGN he isn't concerned about the competition on May 6, claiming "the more, the merrier" when it comes to sharing the release date.

"We're still on that date and we're going to be announcing soon what the movie will be on that date,"Feige told IGN.  That's what we're sort of actively working on as we get ready to firm up and get into pre-production what will be the two films for '16 and the two films for '17."

Feige added he hopes to release multiple announcements about the Marvel franchise before San Diego Comic Con 2014.

"I hope it will be in the coming months," Feige explained.  "If it coincides with Comic-Con that would be nice, but if it happens before that or after that we'll see. It's not about the best time to make an announcement for us. it's about when the team coalesces and when we find a group of collaborators that we want to spend the next two or three years with to bring one of the movies to life."

Marvel has not confirmed "Captain America 3" is in fact the film that is set to compete with director Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" sequel.
