Facebook has confirmed its new redesigned News Feed with bigger images and new fonts. There are no changes to the layout and navigation.

Facebook, the biggest social networking site, announced Thursday that it is updating the look of its desktop version of News Feed. The new design features bigger images and a new font, making it more aligned with the mobile version. The change comes exactly a year after Facebook showed off an experimental build of the completely redesigned News Feed. But after consulting with the testers, Facebook decided not to change the layout and the navigation.

"Today we're rolling out an updated look for News Feed so that desktop and mobile will look the same, making Facebook more consistent and easier to use across platforms," Facebook said in a blog post, Thursday.

The change in design does not alter the way Facebook performs in terms of ranking stories in the News Feed or showing content to people. Despite the large images, organic stories and ads will be of same size. Comparing the new design with last year's test design, Facebook has made some notable changes such as displaying a less cluttered left-hand sidebar

In November last year, the social network changed the design of the "Like" and "Share" buttons, which wasa  first since the launch in 2010. Later, the social media giant upgraded its messenger app for iOS and Android users. Targeting mobile users with significant changes to the site has been on top of the list for Facebook as the maximum revenue generated comes from mobile devices.

Most recently, Facebook announced a new change in policy against illegal gun sales on its site. The move followed severe pressure from gun control groups "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" and "Moms Demand Action," in the U.S.

As for Thursday's announcement, according to the social network, the changes will be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks. Advertisers should not be worried about using different image aspect ratios for ads, as everything remains unchanged.
