Director Quentin Tarantino waves during the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes on May 27, 2023.

Quentin Tarantino is reportedly no longer going to direct 'The Movie Critic,' as the renowned director's 10th and final movie, potentially opening up room for another project to take it's place.

Tarantino has been preparing to shoot the film for months and had lined up Brad Pitt to star.

The Oscar winners had previously collaborated on the films 'Inglourious Basterds' (2009) and 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' (2019).

Tarantino had planned for the new movie to take place in 1977 with the film's protagonist would be "a guy who lived but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag."

The project reportedly morphed into a film that would feature Cliff Booth, the stuntman Pitt portrayed in 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.'

But now, the Hollywood Reporter says the project has been scrapped.

Tarantino had a change of heart about the project in recent weeks, sources told the industry outlet. It was unclear why he decided to scrap the project that was set to begin production this summer.

It is unclear what the director might work on instead for his final movie before retiring.
