Myrtle Simmons-Brown's life came to a tragic end on September 16 when her lifeless body was discovered in a creek near her Maywood home. Sergio Brown, her son and a former NFL player, was notably absent from the scene when the discovery was made.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office later determined that Myrtle Brown had died from blunt force trauma, classifying her death as a homicide.

The case took an unsettling turn when it was revealed that Sergio Brown had admitted in October to taking some of his mother's belongings to Mexico and using her credit card there after her death.

DNA evidence further connected him to the crime, with DNA samples found under Myrtle Brown's fingernails matching DNA from a toothbrush in Sergio Brown's bedroom. However, his public defender emphasized the lack of direct evidence, labeling the case as circumstantial.

Authorities have successfully located and apprehended Sergio Brown in Mexico, following an extensive search. During his stay in Mexico, Brown took to social media to share a series of peculiar videos that appeared to make light of his mother's passing, causing alarm and prompting questions about his mental well-being, according to Yahoo News.

The Neighbors have come forward to provide important details to the authorities. One neighbor, in particular, has shared a compelling piece of evidence: a Ring doorbell video capturing Sergio Brown in the act of burning his mother's clothes.

This revelation sheds new light on the ongoing investigation. In addition, it was observed that he had exhibited peculiar behavior in the months preceding his mother's untimely demise.

Brown's return to the United States resulted in his arrest and subsequent detention without bail, as he was considered a "real and present threat" to the community, as stated by an Illinois judge. The case has continued to garner significant attention, with a status hearing scheduled for January 24 in Maywood.

Sergio Brown, known for his career as a defensive back in the NFL, played for teams including the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills. His transition from the football field to the courtroom has left many in the community stunned and searching for answers regarding the tragic death of his mother, Myrtle Simmons-Brown.
