Dakota Johnson dished on her role as the shy Anastasia Steele in "Fifty Shades of Grey" during an interview with Vanity Fair. The 24-year-old actress told the magazine that mentally preparing for role was hard work, but a little bit boring.

Johnson explained that she focused on trying to connect to her character before she falls in love with the kinky Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan).

"[I did] a lot of getting into the character's head - Ana's headspace - kind of before she meets Christian," she told the magazine. "So it's a lot of reading, which I love. But she's an English major, so that's kind of boring."

Johnson was joking of course but things really don't get interesting for Ana until after she meets Christian and embarks on a sexual journey that involves spanking, lavish gifts and the Red Room of Pain. Johnson did say that she enjoys filming with Dornan and director Sam Taylor-Johnson.

"It's been a very smooth, fun and creative experience. I think going into something like this you kind of have all these different fears of what it could be like, and none of those things are happening," she said. "We all get along really well, the crew is amazing and we're just all trying to make this project the best that it can be."

The actress also said she's very excited for the movie to premiere but finds it more than a little awkward to discuss her role with her parents, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson.

"I think that I would love to have them experience it with me, but I can't really do that, just because of what it entails," she said. "I talk to them more about my problems with my landlords. That's my talking point with my family."

"Fifty Shades of Grey" will be released Feb. 13, 2015.
