The Indianapolis Colts are looking to augment their defensive line for next season. It appears that their defense suffered a big letdown last season and are now looking to resolve it. Latest news is now linking them to one of the notable defensive player in the league that is still available up to this time, defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins.

The Indianapolis Colts is one of the teams in the NFL that have a winning tradition. For the past 16 seasons, they have been into twelve playoffs appearances and during that period, they've been in the Super Bowl twice. They won the championship in 2006 by beating the Chicago Bears but wasn't able to duplicate it three years after where they lost to the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl XLIV.

The past two season hasn't been good for the Indianapolis Colts as they weren't able to enter the playoffs with the same 8-8 win-loss record. Their offense is clicking as they are ranked 8th (25.7) in total points scored and 10th (364.4) in total yards gained but their defense is exactly the opposite as they ranked 22nd (24.5) in total points allowed and 30th (382.9) in total yards allowed.

And now, the Indianapolis Colts appears to have an answer for their misery in defense next season. According to NFL.com, now that the market for a defensive lineman is too little in free agency, the Colts should be considering of getting free agent defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins.

Now that Dontari Poe chose to join the Atlanta Falcons and Bennie Logan has signed a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, the next logical choice for the Indianapolis Colts is none other than Johnathan Hankins. Turning 25 next week, the six foot two, 320-pound run stuffer will definitely boost the defensive line for the Colts next season.

In four seasons with the New York Giants, Johnathan Hankins was able to register 140 tackles and 10 sacks. At a young age, Hankins still have a big potential to improve and being a three-year starter for the Giants greatly help to hone his experience. The Indianapolis Colts could get Hankins at a reasonable price that would be acceptable to his rate terms.

Is Johnathan Hankins a plausible option on the defensive line for the Indianapolis Colts next season?
