Google's latest Android 7.0 Nougat mobile operating system has already been released for a number of smartphones, including Nexus devices. Not it is rumored that OnePlus One users may also get to enjoy the new features packed with the latest Android upgrade.

OnePlus One running on Android 7.0 Nougat was recently spotted on benchmarking website Geekbench, according to International Business Times. This has creates a wave of excitement among OnePlus One users, who now anticipate that they may also receive the latest version of the Android OS on their 2014 flagship phone.

This leak has come as a great surprise to the OnePlus 2014 flagship users as earlier the phone was rendered ineligible for upgrade. This was primarily because of two reasons - first, the device is almost two-and-a-half years old and second, it has Snapdragon 801 quad-core CPU.

While the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) are only allowed to release Android 7.0 Nougat upgrade only for smartphones that are either 18 months or a maximum of 24 months old. In addition, Snapdragon 801 quad-core CPU is believed to incompatible with the latest Nougat update because it does not support Vulcan graphics API.

OnePlus One can only be upgraded if Qualcomm decides to release a new graphics driver. On the other hand, the smartphone company also failed to provide any assistance to the old flagship users, thus discouraging users from moving on to latest smartphones.

As for the figures associated with Android 7.0 Nougat running on OnePlus One, the numbers do not seem so great. It has a multi-core score of 2,521 and a single-core score of 976. But the users will still be able to enjoy all the features of the latest Google OS if the update is finally released for OnePlus One.

Meanwhile, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is expected to launch the highly anticipated flagship soon, OnePlus 3T. It will come with a faster CPU and a better quality camera, costing at around USD 479.
