Power Rangers stands as one of the most popular pop culture phenomena from the 1990s. The group is composed of high-school kids bent on saving the world with their unique superpowers. For those who grew up during that time, "Go, Go, Power Rangers!" became a household mantra. The TV series, which first aired in 1993, will have a movie adaptation to be released on March 24, 2017, according to Saban Entertainment and Lionsgate.

The upcoming Power Rangers movie is not the first big screen adaptation of the series. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997) were the previous film adaptations. According to Cinemablend, the Power Rangers is a reboot of the former. It will be a retelling of the Rangers' adventures in a modern day setting.

Dean Israelite will be directing the film. His first movie was the sci-fi adventure Project Almanac. Dacre Montgomery (Bertrand the Terrible) has been cast as Jason, the leader of the group. Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt and an episode of the Netflix series Marco Polo) is the Black Ranger. Naomi Scott (Terra Nova) plays the Pink Ranger. The Yellow Ranger is going to be played by the pop singer Becky Gomez (Austin and Ally). RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) takes the role of the Blue Ranger. Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston will play their mentor Zordon. Of course, the Power Rangers will not be as popular without her "villainess" Rita Repulsa, the alien who wants to conquer the Earth. She will be played by Elizabeth Banks.

Images of the Rangers' power suits have been released recently and some fans commented that the outfits are too cheesy for a film aiming for a realistic tone. Production designer Andrew Menzies (Fury) said during an interview:

"It's tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume. Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that's not man-made. You can't win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans."
