The Lion King remake is on its way to the big screen with The Jungle Book director at the helm.

Many fans are probably excited to see Simba roar once again as Walt Disney, in a press release, announced that the reimagining of the beloved Disney film The Lion King is already on its way to production, with Jon Favreau as the director. Favreau helmed the recently released animated film The Jungle Book, with a worldwide success of over $900 million.

The Lion King is considered as one of the top-grossing animated films of all time, earning more than $4 million in the US alone and over $900 million worldwide when it was released in 1994.

The new movie will be a live action version. One of the exciting news is that it will include music from the original film.

"The project follows the technologically groundbreaking smash hit The Jungle Book, directed by Favreau, which debuted in April and has earned $965.8 million worldwide," according to a representative from Walt Disney.

Recently, Disney has seen the release of the animated film turned live actions, with Maleficent and Cinderella. It is also working on the live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

"'The Lion King' builds on Disney's success of reimagining its classics for a contemporary audience with films like 'Maleficent,' 'Cinderella' and 'The Jungle Book,'" the company said in a statement.

Jon Favreau's claim to fame as a director includes Elf, Chef, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and Cowboys & Aliens. Favreau is the executive producer The Avengers, Iron Man 3, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. He is also working on a sequel to Jungle Book.

Fans have mixed reactions about The Lion King remake. Some are excited and others do not like the idea. Walt Disney has yet to announce the release date of the live action adaptation.
