The release date of Pacific Rim 2 was revised anew from April 2017 to Feb. 23, 2018.

Poor reviews may have prompted the producers to move the release date further as the original Pacific Rim accordingly failed to deliver the promised thrill and excitement.

The original movie, directed by Guillermo del Toro, was released in 2013. It was highly anticipated following its thriller to deliver an exciting futuristic fights between skyscraper-high-human-controlled robots and out-of-this-world gigantic monsters.

There have been talks and speculations regarding the main characters in the first movie (played by Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi) and their appearances in the sequel. Hunnam already confirmed that he will not be part of the second sequel.

Del Torro said that Steven S. DeKnight, director of "Spartacus" and "Daredevil," will be directing the second installment while the script is currently undergoing revision by Jurassic World screenwriter Derek Connolly.

There on-going speculations that John Boyega from the movie "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Suicide Squad's" Scott Eastwood will most likely be the new heroes in Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.
