Even as Republicans and Democrats lock horns over various issues, the only US TV show that brings them together is "Supernatural", says a new survey. This CW show is more popular among both parties, compared to programs.

The result was arrived at by research firm E-Score, that made lists of the top 10 favourite programs of respondents, who called themselves either Democrats or Republicans.

The survey looked at 750 primetime broadcast, cable, and streaming programs and interviewed Americans who were 18 years old and above, with 1,200 respondents per show.

Democrats, supporters of Hillary Clinton, opted for shows that are "sexy, edgy, emotionally involving, ethnically diverse or have strong characters." The top 3 shows that come in this category and are called "sexy" by the Democrats are "Game of Thrones," The Haves and the Have Nots" and Suits."

Republicans chose shows that are "family-friendly, funny, plot-driven or have storylines that involve 'good vs evil'" plots. "These shows may be more appealing to supporters of Trump."

Democrats opted for the top three shows being "ethnically diverse", including "The Haves and the Have Nots," "How to Get Away with Murder" and "Empire." The series' cast is diverse that they all feature women, as well as the average, diverse Democrat viewer.

On the other hand, shows that clearly divide the good and evil are liked by Republicans. This component is found in "The Flash," "Arrow" and "Scorpion" as well as "NCIS" and "Blue Bloods." All these shows have the "good vs evil" fable.

The only show both parties liked was "Supernatural" the longest-running sci-fi TV program. This turned out to be the Number 1 favourite of Republicans, and the third favourite of Democrats.

However, it is not completely clear why "Supernatural" is so popular. Although it is "sexy, emotionally involving and has strong good vs evil component", it still does not have ethnically diverse representatives, nor as many female characters, which appeals to Democrats. Moreover, dealing with "monsters, evil, and the occult", it may not be family-friendly to curry favour with Republicans.

The survey rated the following programs in the list of "One of My Favorites" by Democrats and Republicans:

Democrats:

"Game of Thrones"

"The Haves and the Have Nots"

"Supernatural"

"The Big Bang Theory"

Republicans:
