This week is already going to be a big one for "Star Fox" fans. April 22 will already herald the return of the "Star Fox" series to home consoles when "Star Fox Zero" comes to the Wii U, but it looks like anime fans will also have something fun to look forward to on April 20 when an animated short, dubbed "Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins," premieres.

The animated short will be part of special online event on its live-streaming website starting at 3 p.m. PST. Once the animated short is over, there will be a special "Nintendo Treehouse: Live" featuring "Star Fox Zero" and "Star Fox Guard."

"Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins" will presumably feature events taking place right before the start of the game, though that's not known for certain. No matter what the animated short is about, however, if the staff is any reflection of the short's quality, then it's sure to be quite good. Staff for the short includes game creator Shigeru Miyamoto ("Mario," "Zelda," "Star Fox"), Production I.G. ("Ghost in the Shell," "Blood: The Last Vampire," "Attack on Titan") and Wit Studio ("Attack on Titan," "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress," "The Empire of Corpses").

This is just the latest in a long string events Nintendo has held in order to celebrate the Star Fox team's latest adventure. There have been several trailers, including a history trailer, as well as an art contest on the Miiverse Star Fox Zero Intergalactic Art Event community where fans have been able to submit "Star Fox"-themed art by April 22 for a chance to win $10 in Nintendo eShop credit. The contest has been held in weekly rounds, and this week is the last, so if you want some eShop credit and your art skills are up to snuff, then give it a shot.

"Star Fox Zero" itself will come out on the Wii U on April 21 in Japan and April 22 in North America. The game is neither a sequel nor a remake but rather a re-imagining of "Star Fox 64." As such there will be many facets that will return from the original game, but there will be new ones as well. First Print Editions of the game will come with a download code for the tower defense game, titled "Star Fox Guard," while everyone else will need to get it as a standalone digital download.

Those interested in watching "Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins" can watch it when it debuts on Wednesday, HERE.
