Microsoft is reportedly working on including virtual navigation buttons for its upcoming Windows Phone series.

According to a Digital Trends report, leaked photos of the Windows Phone hint that the Windows operating system is taking the same path as Android’s towards incorporating virtual navigation buttons in its latest release.

The screengrab, which was posted by @evleaks in the social networking site Twitter, displays the flipside, Start and search buttons at the lower part of the software interface, while in the current Windows handsets, those buttons are exist physically.

Weeks ago, The Verge reported that “sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans” told them that the Redmond-based company was moving towards an Android-like navigation keys that are incorporated into the software rather than the usual where the buttons are planted in the hardware.

Aside from following Android’s design, another reason for this shift is that it reduces the manufacturing costs for handset manufacturers.

Microsoft is said to be making modifications as it press Samsung and HTC on developing a new lineup of Windows Mobile Phones.

Though the image tweeted by the notable rumormonger doesn’t make things clear on how the forthcoming mobile device looks and feels like, the proposed shift in the phones navigation keys is quite appealing.

Windows 8.1 update is believed to be launched at the BUILD 2014 conference on April 2 to 4.

Additional new features included in the update are the overhauled notification center, a “Cortana” personal assistant to take on Google Now and Siri, and enhancements in Skype.

Despite the huge progress with Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform, it still remains behind the well-loved Android OS and iOS. However, if eminent applications, like Instagram, will be incorporated in the update, the windows Phone OS can at least secure its place in the third spot.
