MAC is honoring the life of late Tejano music legend Selena Quintanilla with an entire makeup collection set to launch this October.

Today, the makeup brand released the first sneak peek at the forthcoming multi-product, limited edition collection. The first product that MAC introduced is a lipstick named "Como La Flor," which comes in a purple tube. The lipstick is bright red, a color that Selena often rocked during her short life.

The MAC x Selena collection was inspired by fans of the singer and was created by her sister Suzette Quintanilla.

"I wanted the colors to be about her personally, what she wore on and offstage," Quintanilla said. "She has been gone for 21 years already, and for this collaboration to happen, it's pretty much incredible. It just shows the love her fan base has even though she's gone; that her music still lives on and her legacy has grown tremendously since she's passed. It's a great honor to have MAC collaborate with Selena's name and her fans - for her fans."

"Selena's talent and beauty, inside and out, have left a colorful, meaningful impact in the world that has continued to grow over the last two decades," MAC creative director James Gager said. "We have heard the passion and enthusiasm from her fans and wholeheartedly agree that her legacy embodies MAC's philosophy."

Last July, MAC confirmed it was working on a line inspired by the singer after a woman named Patty Rodriguez, who is a producer on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, started an online petition that asked the brand to create a line inspired by Selena.

"This is history in the making," Rodriguez said. "To have a brand like MAC Cosmetics honor Selena Quintanilla, a Latina-American, speaks volumes of what she meant not just our community but to pop culture in this country. This will only inspire young girls to dream even bigger."

Selena was murdered in in March 1995 by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldívar, and had always hoped to have a makeup collection of her own.

"Helping to create this collection brings me back to all those late night conversations on our tour bus when she spoke of having her own makeup line one day," Selena's sister continued. "If Selena were here she would be beyond ecstatic to have this happening. History is being made."
