Kylie Jenner is receiving a lot of hate on social media. What else is new?

This time the 18-year-old reality star is receiving hate from her Instagram followers because she decided to post a picture of herself wearing a T-shirt featuring the face of murdered Mexican singer Selena Quintanilla.

Some of the more vicious comments to Jenner's picture included: "I bet she can't even name five Selena songs." "She wasn't even alive when Selena was around," said another commenter.

However, Jenner isn't the first contemporary celebrity to express their love for the slain Latina songstress. Some of her other famous fans include Drake, Big Sean and Lady Gaga. In fact, Lady Gaga, who also posted a photo of herself wearing a Selena Quintanilla shirt on her Instagram account, referred to it as her "favorite t-shirt."

Quintanilla's impact is still largely felt in the music community even though she was killed in 1995 at the tender age of 23. Selena was one of the first artists to truly be a Latin crossover success in the United States. However, she never had the chance to capitalize on her success as she was shot fatally by her ex-business associate Yolanda Saldivar over a supposed money feud.

Selena's popularity lives on despite her early death, as many of her songs still receive airplay in the United States. Another contemporary singer, Selena Gomez, was actually named after Quintanilla.

Despite the hate Jenner's post generated, Selena's own brother, also the former bassist in her backing band, A.B Quintanilla, has come out in Kylie's defense. "I found a picture of Kylie Jenner wearing a Selena t-shirt," he said, adding that he has seen others such as Drake and Lady Gaga do the same. "It's all good! It's all about the memory of Selena. You guys are not seeing the big picture. Kylie has done Selena a huge favor and that huge favor is that she put her on blast with 60 million people. That's 60 million people that saw the Selena t-shirt. A lot might not even know who Selena is and will go investigate."

Perhaps it was not all bad for the much-maligned Kylie Jenner after all.
