Twitter for Mac has received an update that adds a few new features and a refreshed design. Users can hover on an image from the feed and get a preview of the picture before clicking on it.

Twitter has been making quite a few changes on its site and mobile-based applications. To keep at par with its rivals such as Facebook, the social network is doing everything to keep its users engaged in conversations by sharing pictures and videos. Earlier this week, Twitter added photos to its popular Direct Messages (DM) feature, letting users share images across the platform more privately.

After a successful roll-out of image preview option on Android and iOS platforms, Twitter is concentrating on Mac App. The latest Twitter Mac update brings the app to version 3.0 and improves the overall experience with a slew of changes. Starting Thursday, Mac users will see a preview of Twitter photos along with a detailed view of replies, retweets, and favorites.

"Previews of Twitter photos will be front and center in Tweets. To see more of the photo, just click," the microblogging service said in the app's description on Mac App Store, and also explained how users can go about disabling the feature if they prefer the older visual.

"Just go to preferences and uncheck "image previews."

Besides image previews the update brings a refreshed design with a profile banner that includes detailed information of each user, which includes users' followers, who they follow and their custom timelines.

The latest update follows a previous update from April, which was launched in support of Retina display. This update arrived for Mac users after nearly two years.

The free Twitter app version 3.0 is available for download on Mac App Store.
