The third season of the hit anime series "Tokyo Ghoul" has managed to incite some controversy among the franchise's fans about the upcoming series' content. Due to the series' release date, which was originally set for within the next few months, fans were apprehensive about the possible direction that the third season's storyline would take. Now, however, it seems like the production companies behind the anime are rethinking their strategy.

The latest news from the rumor mill suggests that the third season's premiere might be pushed back as far as the latter part of 2016, far beyond initial rumors that suggested "Tokyo Ghoul Season 3" would start airing this spring.

In a lot of ways, a delay might be the best news that fans have received yet. After all, when reports emerged that the third season of the anime would be rife with fillers due to the lack of material from the manga, fans were not pleased.

Fans' reactions remained cold when reports emerged that the production team of the third season would pursue a reboot that centers on female lead character Touka Kirishima, too. After all, with the equally vague and unsatisfying finale of the second season, fans of the franchise are demanding something more.

Currently, the "Tokyo Ghoul:re" manga, which is allegedly the source material for the anime's third season, is just on Chapter 69 as of March 24. With the current pacing of the manga, the events that have happened so far since "Tokyo Ghoul:re" started to seem to be inadequate to deliver a well-rounded third season.

Thus, with the news that the release date is being pushed back further, there is a very significant chance that the producers are waiting for more material to come out. If any, this is good news for fans, who would once more enjoy the manga's iconic events animated for the small screen.

Despite a more expansive source, however, the producers would still need to contend with harmonizing the events of the second season and that of the third. After all, "Tokyo Ghoul Root A" diverged significantly from the manga. Thus, if the third season goes back to its roots, the anime producers would surely have their work cut out for them.

Nevertheless, for "Tokyo Ghoul" fans, the sheer prospect of the anime being delayed for the sake of the series' quality would be the best news that has emerged as of late.
