Over the weekend, Amy Schumer attended the hit Broadway play “Hamilton” for the second time in five months. While attending the musical, the “Inside Amy Schumer” comedian left an incredibly generous tip of $1,000 on a bill that was only $77 for the six bartenders.

Madeleine DeJohn, one of the bartenders who was lucky enough to be working the night Schumer attended the show, said that this was not the first time the comedian left a generous tip. The last time Schumer went to see “Hamilton,” she gave an $80 tip on a $40 bill.

“I was very touched, it was just something so generous and so kind that you don’t see every day,” DeJohn said.

DeJohn, who is an aspiring actress, said that when she went to thank Schumer for her generosity, the “Trainwreck” star told her, “I’ve been there, I get it.”

DeJohn said that all six bartenders who work the bar at the theater “Hamilton” plays at are artists that tend bars as their “survival jobs.” Before Schumer made it big as a comedian, she waited tables and bartended in New York City to support her comedy career. “Amy knows what it’s like to struggle in the service industry while trying to find success,” she said. “When she came to the bar a few months ago and put $80 in our tip jar, I went up to her and thanked her and she basically was like, ‘Of course, I’ve been there, I get it, you guys are great.’ I’ve never encountered this kind of generosity before.”

While tons of celebrities have gotten the chance to see “Hamilton” - including Kanye West, Beyoncé, Eminem, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks and more - none have left a tip as generous as Schumer. “I’d like to think if I become that successful, that I can do the same,” DeJohn said. “She’s been one of us. She reminded me that there’s still a lot of good in the world.”

“And then @amyschumer comes into your work and does something amazing,” DeJohn wrote on an Instagram photo that showed the $1,000 tip.
