The new trailer for Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse" is here and it is upping the stakes for the X-franchise. Check it out in all of its Armageddon-ish glory below.

While "X2: X-Men United" threatened the extinction of humanity and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" dealt with a dystopian future, neither presented an end-of-the-world story in the making. Well, Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse is here to change all that. The new trailer shows off his impressive array of abilities and the carnage he's unleashing on the world.

Singer explained the thinking behind Isaac's villainous character recently, saying: "One is that he makes no distinction between humans and mutants. He's interested in the Earth as a whole and the purity of civilization and the strongest [beings]. And secondly it deals with ancient mutantism, or the origins of the mutant state, or the origins of gods and religion."

The newest entry into the X-franchise is selling audiences on bigger stakes, bigger explosions and bigger action as well as a few new (old?) X-Men joining the fray.

"Forget everything you think you know," Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique tells the (un)familiar faces of Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. "You're not students anymore; you're X-Men." Boom: Hey Cyclops, how's it going? Oh, Jean Grey, I haven't seen you in forever! Nightcrawler, what's up dude?

X-Men fans will also meet new versions of Storm and Angel while being introduced to Psylocke, Jubilee and others.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" has put together a stellar cast of established actors and young and up-and-coming talent that includes Lawrence, Isaac, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Josh Helman, Lana Condor, and Ben Hardy.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit theaters on May 27.
