"X-Men: Apocalypse" will bring to a close the second trilogy in 20th Century Fox's X-Universe, so it is fitting that the film looks to be the most massive and large-scale of them all. Today, the studio released the first trailer for the film, and it looks very exciting. Check it out here.

The timeline of the X-Universe was rewritten following the events of "X-Men: Days of Future Past," making room for new stories to be told. In this space, we are getting young versions of familiar Alexandra Shipp introduced in director Bryan Singer's first "X-Men" trilogy. Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Scott Summer (Tye Sheridan) and Storm (Alexandra Shipp) will join Professor Xavier (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) as they all bear witness to the rise of the most iconic villain in X-Men history, Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac).

Beyond that main cast, "Apocalypse" will feature a handful of other fan favorites from the comics such as Angel/Archangel (Ben hardy), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit McPhee) and Jubilee (Lana Condor).

The first trailer gives fans an idea of the scope that they are going for, and Isaac, one of the most talented up-and-comers in Hollywood, is virtually unrecognizable as the titual villain. Needless to say, we're excited for this movie, but where does it rank on our list of 2016 superhero films?

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
