Hiro and Baymax are returning for more adventures in the new Disney XD show "Big Hero 6: The Series," inspired by the Oscar-winning animated feature. The tech prodigy and his inflatable plus-sized robot will reunite with their friends Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred and Go Go to make up the legendary superhero team, Big Hero 6.

Produced by Disney Television Animated, the TV show "Big Hero 6" has begun production and will premiere on Disney XD in 2017. Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley, who created the popular Disney Channel series "Kim Possible," will serve as executive producer along with Nick Filippi, who also worked on the former Disney animated series.

"Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters," Gary March, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, said in a statement. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series - full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob - and Baymax - can deliver."

Following the events of the feature film, "Big Hero 6: The Series" will continue "the adventures and friendship of 14-year-old tech genius Hiro and his compassionate, cutting-edge robot Baymax. Joining them on their journey will be control freak Wasabi, scientist Honey Lemon, fanboy Fred and no-nonsense Go Go.

"As the new prodigy at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, Hiro now faces daunting academic challenges and the social trials of being the little man on campus. Off campus, the stakes are raised for the high-tech heroes as they must protect their city from an array of scientifically enhanced villains."

The movie "Big Hero 6" centers on the special bond that develops between Hiro and Baymax, invented by Hiro's brother who unfortunately meets his demise at the hand of an envious professor at the institute. The film was inspired by the Marvel Comics superhero team.

Disney XD is also the home of Marvel's animated shows including "Marvel's Avengers: Ultron Revolution," "Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy," "Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H." and "Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man Vs. The Sinister 6."
