Paramount Pictures has announced the release date for Vin Diesel's "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage" and the threequel in the action-packed "XXX" series is slated to hit theaters on Jan. 20, 2017, according to Deadline.

The film marks Diesel's return to the franchise nearly 15 years after the original. The "Furious 7" actor was replaced by Ice Cube in the 2005 sequel "XXX: State Of The Union."

"XXX 3," which will be shot in Toronto and the Dominican Republic, will be produced by Revolution Studios, Roth Kirschenbaum Films and Diesel's One Race Film.

D.J. Caruso, whose credits include "I Am Number Four" and "Disturbia," will direct the film penned by Chad St. John and F. Scott Frazier, according to The Wrap.

"XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," follows the story of Xander Cage, the extreme sports junkie/secret agent who comes out of exile to take down an alpha warrior named Xiang and thwart his plans to unleash an unstoppable weapon known as Pandora's Box, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role in the film alongside Bollywood sensation Deepika Padukone, Nina Dobrev, Ruby Rose, Tony Jaa and Donnie Yen.
