Vin Diesel revealed on Instagram that he will be reprising his role as Xander Cage in the third installment of the "XXX" franchise. Shooting for the untitled film will take place in the Philippines this December, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"While I was filming XXX, guys on set called me Air Diesel," he wrote on Instagram. "The time to return has come."

Diesel starred in the original 2002 film, directed by Rob Cohen, as Cage, a thrill-seeking extreme sports enthusiast who is forced into working as a spy for the U.S. government in order to take down a gang of international terrorists. The film, released by Sony, did well at the box office, earning $277 million worldwide, according to Variety.

The "Fast and Furious" star was originally signed on for the film's 2005 sequel, "XXX: State of the Union," but dropped out and was replaced by Ice Cube in the lead role. The film, directed by Lee Tamahori, grossed $72 million worldwide for Sony.

A spokesperson for Revolution Studios, which owns the rights to the "XXX" franchise, said that the studio is in talks with Diesel to return.

Diesel's next film "The Last Witch Hunter" is slated to hit theaters on Oct. 23. Watch the trailer HERE.
