Along with Samsung, LG is expected to headline this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which takes place from Feb. 22 to 25. The Korean tech company will unveil its flagship G5, which recent leaks show will come with a very interesting new feature: a Magic Slot.

The intriguing slot is now being considered  an innovation since it introduces modular parts that recall Google's own Project Ara. While the G5 will not feature a completely modular handset, the image reveals that the G5's owner can swap components through the Magic Slot located at the bottom of the device.

To demonstrate this clearly, take a look at the photo below. While it did not capture the actual accessory, it shows its box that has a photo of a battery module. This can be swapped with a camera attachment dubbed the LG Cam Plus. Another rumored module involves the LG Hi-Fi Plus for audiophiles, according to Android Authority. This particular audio module could be the outcome of LG's partnership with Bang & Olufsen, which was only announced Friday.

The modular strategy in LG's G5 recalls a strange concept that the company introduced for its recent LG Specialist X series, where each phone only featured a specialized feature or skill such as top-of-the-line camera or display. For the G5, there is no fixed specialization. All the user needs to do is swap the modules to specialize on a feature or add a functionality.

Aside from components, the G5's Magic Slot could also accommodate accessories such as physical control knobs, The Next Web reported. It could also address one of the most common complaints in smartphones with unibody design since it could be used to attach expandable storage.
