Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia was placed under lockdown today following reports of shots being fired outside one of the buildings on the Army side of the base, officials said.

News of the shooting first broke this morning when officials at the base reported on Twitter that shots were fired outside of Fort Eustis' building 650, which is the Soldier and Family Readiness Center.

Officials followed the initial report with a series of tweets, one of which revealed that authorities are not treating the case as an active shooter situation, reported Fox News. Another tweet revealed that there are no reports of injuries or fatalities.

The lockdown was lifted several minutes later, reported CBS' Virginia affiliate WTKR-TV. However, authorities are still at the site as they investigate the cause of the incident.

Established in January 2010 by the administrative merging of Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis, Joint Base Langley-Eusitis is located in Virginia adjacent to Hampton and Newport News.
