Petitions for "Saturday Night Live" hosts are nothing new in the Internet age. Lorne Michaels bowed down to the masses and invited Betty White to host in 2010 after fans launched a Facebook campaign called "Betty White to Host SNL (please?)!" Now, one fan is taking things a step further by petitioning for the fictional character Deadpool to host the NBC sketch comedy show.

Andrew Stege created the Change.org petition that asks for the Marvel anti-hero, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the hit movie "Deadpool," to host and bring his special brand of humor to the show. The movie from 20th Century Fox premiered over the weekend and broke numerous box office records, including best opening weekend for an R-rated movie.

Stege wrote in his proposal:

"How would this not be hilarious having Deadpool in sketches, breaking the 4th wall, and inserting some of his brand of humor (obviously toned down a bit for network television)!?!?! I have not watched a full episode of SNL in years because I just haven't been able to stomach an entire episode, but having Deadpool host, star, and be all over the episode would get the DVR set so I can watch it again and again!!! Not to mention, depending on the musical guest, how awesome would it be to have some Deadpool interpretive dancing while the musical guest was playing? There's unlimited possibilities!!!"

As of 2 p.m. on Feb. 18, the petition had gathered almost 29,000 signatures on its way to a goal of 35,000 total.

Reynolds hosted "SNL" once before in 2009 following the success of his romantic comedy "The Proposal" with Sandra Bullock.
