Ryan Reynolds' highly-anticipated movie "Deadpool" will finally hit theatres this weekend, but the film almost never saw the light of day. The actor stopped by "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" Tuesday night and explained to the host how leaked test footage from the film lead to it finally being made after a long 11 years.

"It was the worst relationship I've ever been in," Reynolds said. "On-again, off-again. Occasionally we sleep together and it just causes more pain. And then somehow, someway, we got married."

Reynolds told Fallon that the "Deadpool" script was finally developed six years ago, but it was leaked online and fans went wild for it. The strong reception allowed the studio Reynolds was working with to give him a small amount of money to make some test footage, which was also leaked.

"I know that one of us did it," Reynolds said. "There's four of us: me, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Tim Miller the director. We all said at the beginning that someone should leak it, so the idea was planted, but I'm 70 percent sure it wasn't me."

"Deadpool" is out in theatres Feb. 12.
