Dr. Dre is set to star in Apple's first-ever scripted television series called "Vital Signs," which is described as a dark semi-autobiographical drama.

The 50-year-old rap legend and music mogul will also serve as the executive producer of the show, which will consist of six episodes, alongside the technology giant.

Apple Music will likely distribute the TV show, but whether or not Apple TV, the iTunes store and other applications will be involved in some capacity remains unclear, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show is described as semi-autobiographical, structured similarly to Netflix show "Masters of None," each episode focusing on a particular theme that the character of Dr. Dre will discover.

The show will only run for half an hour and is considered more of a dark drama than comedy, with "no shortage of violence or sex," according to The Huffington Post.

Both Netflix and Amazon have embarked on creating original television programing and have experienced varying degrees of success. For Apple, on the other hand, this will mark the first time it will embark on creating its own, according to AFP.
