Facebook has been known for being one of the most downloaded apps on Apple's App Store for years, with hundreds of millions of downloads since it was launched. Through the years, however, the app had been criticized for being way too power-hungry, consuming massive amounts of battery life from iOS devices, according to CBS News.

As it turned out, such rumors were true. Samuel Gibbs, a writer for The Guardian, was noted to have initiated real-world battery endurance tests on iOS devices with and without the Facebook app installed. The result? Without the Facebook app, iPhones generally last about 15 percent longer.

Thus, the simple action of uninstalling the Facebook app positively affects battery life immensely. After all, it is better to just use Safari or any other browser to access Facebook than to use the app and equip an iPhone with Apple's infamous hunched battery pack, right?

Gibbs' test was not confined only to himself, however, as the writer stated that the iPhone battery endurance test with and without the Facebook app has been initiated by other iOS users, with exactly the same results, reported Asia One Digital News.

It was not only battery life that benefited from the removal of the Facebook app, as Gibbs also noted that a huge part of the phone's cache was cleared immediately after the app was deleted.

Facebook has been quite reserved about the issue, with a spokesperson stating that the company was investigating the matter.
