As the old saying goes, "If you don't succeed, try, try, again." That's exactly what 10 of tonight's revealed "American Idol" top 24 are doing by competing in the show's farewell season.

Repeat offenders at the auditions are nothing new for "American Idol." Season 13 winner Caleb Johnson actually auditioned for the show three times over four years, making it through to Hollywood Week one year, only to be cut before eventually winning.

Johnson blamed himself for his past failure on the show, telling reporters the night of his win in May of 2014, "I messed up on the past seasons' auditions. Just a lack of experience, letting my nerves get to me and just not being completely in tune with who I am as an artist."

Johnson picked up the pieces, went home and worked before returning and winning a year later.

So in a TV landscape filled with "The Voice," "America's Got Talent" and the sadly departed "X-Factor," it was inevitable that in its farewell season "American Idol" would end up mining talent from past season of those shows and "Idol."

With this season's top 12, as voted by viewers, still to be determined, it remains to be seen just how much of these faces you will be seeing as the season progresses. But if you caught yourself  saying, "I've seen them before," chances are you did, and here's where:

Shelbie Z:

In 2013 fans of "The Voice" were introduced to Shelbie, who made it through to Team Blake on Season 5 of the show. She was eventually eliminated in the live playoffs despite proving herself a vocal powerhouse.

Gianna Isabella:

On Season 3 of "The X-Factor" we met a then-13-year-old Isabella, daughter of "I Still Believe" singer Brenda K. Starr, who like now was there to support her daughter. Isabella didn't make it far but managed to impressed the judges, including Simon Cowell.

Trent Harmon:

Country farm boy Harmon gave his best for his "The Voice" audition in Season 9. He didn't make it through to the show yet impressed the coaches during his blind audition.

Adam Lasher:

On Season 14 of "Idol," Lasher's elimination during the group performances of Hollywood week caused quite the shock. He failed to impress the judges and was sent packing. Maybe this is finally his year.

Olivia Rox:

Season 8 of "Americas Got Talent" introduced viewers to a then-14-year-old Rox. She would be eliminated during the Vegas Rounds of the show but proved her musical families genes had been instilled in her.

Sonika Vaid:

On season 4 of "The Voice" Viad made it to the blind auditions. But after failing to turn a single coach's chair she didn't make it further than that.

Mackenzie Bourg:

On Season 3 of "The Voice" we first met Bourg, who then revealed he had a disease that almost caused heart failure. He would eventually join Team Cee Lo after Green was the only coach to turn his chair.

Jenna Renae:
The audience for Season 10 of "America's Got Talent" saw a then-23-year-old Renae audition, but her full audition was only available online. She made it to the quarterfinals of the show only to be eliminated in the judges' cut rounds.

Kory Wheeler:

Wheeler's first  "American Idol" audition was featured in Season 14 of the show. His performance of "I Will Make You Love Me" impressed the judges enough to give him a golden ticket to Hollywood, but being cut in the group rounds ended his "Idol" dreams early.

Emily Brooke:

Another repeat offender from season 14 of  "American Idol." Brooke auditioned in Tennessee when she was 15 years old. Her audition awarded her a golden ticket, only to be cut before making last season's top 24.

Next Wednesday, the first group of 12 semifinalists will perform, with the remainder performing on Thursday. Both nights will feature special appearances from fan-favorite former "Idols": Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Caleb Johnson and Nick Fradiani,  who return to mentor and perform a duet with the semifinalists.

"American Idol" airs at 8 p.m. EST Wednesday and Thursday on Fox.
