A sloth was taking a slow stroll through Los Rios, Ecuador, on Jan. 22  when he decided that it was a good idea to cross a busy highway. He made it through the first half but ended up clinging to the pole that separated the highway's two directions and getting more than a little bit stuck. He sat there hanging out and watching the cars, struggling to cross the road.

Luckily, a member of Ecuador's transit commission spotted the little sloth languishing on the highway's partition. "Yes, can I help you?" asked the officer, reported Buzzfeed News.

A veterinarian was called in, and the sloth was taken in for examination. He was in perfect health, not even shaken up by the experience, so he was returned to his normal habitat, reported Time.

The commission posted several photos of the rescue to its Facebook page. The photos have been liked more than 40,000 times and shared more than 12,000 times. This adorable story has won the hearts of the public, and it must have something to do with that silly sloth's amazing sheepish smile.

The commission said it was thrilled to see the world reaching out and worrying about the little sloth and expressed its gratitude for the support of the public, according to the post on its Facebook page.
