Vish the sloth was rescued from an illegal exotic pet trade ring in the city of Tarapoto in the Amazon region of San Martin by the Neotropical Primate Conservation (NPC).

Sloths are especially sensitive wild animals and cannot handle being kept as pets, reported One Green Planet. Luckily for Vish, he won't have to suffer for too long since NPC intervened and gave him a second chance at life.

Vish was rescued from the illegal trade after a concerned member of the public tipped off authorities, reported One Green Planet. It's unclear where he was purchased from.

Once Vish got into the hands of the NPC, he was very sick. His new caretakers fed him a special diet of wild leaves and sprouts to help him get his health back.

"Caring for a baby sloth is very similar to caring for a newborn baby," Noga, the charity's founder who played surrogate mom for Voth, told One Green Planet. "You cannot take your eyes off them for a second and they need constant care, including feeding round the clock."

Within time, Voth gained his full health back and NPC could finally send Voth back into the wild where he belongs. Voth was released into a local protected reserve called Tangue, which is located near Moyobamba in Peru.

"As soon as Vish had contact with the tree, rose rapidly while seemed to sing a little song 'Happy lazy,' then began to eat in the trees," NPC wrote on their Facebook page as a farewell to Voth.
