The New York Giants are interviewing former 49ers head coach Mike Singletary for the linebackers coaching position, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson. The 10-time Pro Bowl and former Super Bowl Champion linebacker worked with newly appointed head coach Ben McAdoo back in San Francisco and could provide a much needed spark to the Giants defense.

The Giants are reportedly expected to retain defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, but the Giants defense is in need of a total overhaul after finishing the season ranked last in yards allowed per game and third to last in terms of points allowed. Singletary struggled in San Francisco, posting a record of 18-22 as their head coach, but he is clearly in his zone when instructing linebackers. Singletary was one of the greatest to play the position and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998. The Giants are clearly missing that dominant presence on defense like in years past and will need to find a voice both in the locker room and on the field to turn their defense around.

While Singletary is reportedly interviewing for the Giants' linebackers coaching position, Green Bay Packers assistant offensive line coach Mike Solari is a strong candidate for the Giants' offensive line coaching position, according to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports. The Giants offense was the sixth highest scoring offense in the NFL this past season, but offensive line questions still remain, as quarterback Eli Manning was sacked 27 times. The Giants know that a huge key to their success is keeping Manning upright, and the hope is that Solari could take the Giants offensive line to another level. New York used their first round pick on offensive tackle Ereck Flowers in the 2015 NFL Draft, and the rookie offensive tackle proved himself a valuable player in his first season. The Giants front office will want to see continued growth in both Flowers and their offensive line in 2016.

McAdoo is getting his coaching staff together, but the Giants have a ton of offseason transactions that still need to happen as player personnel looks to be a big issue, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
