Nearly 90 tons of salads and sandwich wraps from California-based Glass Onion Catering have been recalled, of which have been linked to 26 cases of illness caused by a bacterial strain of E. coli in at least three states, the Christian Science Monitor reports.

According to the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), nearly 181,620 pounds of salads and sandwich wraps containing cooked chicken and ham from Glass Onion Catering, a Richmond-based company, have been recalled, the products having between produced between Sept. 23 and Nov. 6 to distribution centers in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Texas.

Those sickened include three people from Washington who reported to investigators they had fallen ill after eating pre-packaged salads with grilled chicken from Trader Joe's according to Tim Church, a spokesman with the state's Department of Health.

Glass Onion supplies food to Trader Joe's as well as Super Fresh Foods, Delish, Whole Foods and Walgreens, companies that have also been affected by the recall.

On Oct. 29, the FSIS began monitoring a number of illnesses linked to the E. coli O157:H7, which can cause "dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps two to eight days after being exposed to it," according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and while most people can recover within a week, some experience kidney failure.
