Country superstar and celebrity chef Trisha Yearwood is set to star in the upcoming Fox musical of biblical proportions, "The Passion." The three-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist will portray the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the live musical retelling of the classic story of Jesus Christ, Fox announced in a press release.

"I'm thrilled to join #ThePassionLive airing LIVE March 20 on @FOXTV xo trisha," the 51-year-old "How Do I Live" singer wrote on Twitter after the announcement was made.

The two-hour musical event is based on the 2,000-year-old story of Jesus Christ, and the musical will chronicle the last hours of Jesus of Nazareth's life, including the last supper, Judas' betrayal, the trial held by Pontius Pilate and Christ's conviction, crucifixion, and resurrection. Unfolding across various iconic New Orleans locations, the event will also feature a procession of hundreds of people carrying a 20-foot illuminated cross from the Superdome to the stage at Woldenburg Park.

New York-based Latin music singer and songwriter Prince Royce will also star in the live production, portraying the role of disciple Peter. Royce and Yearwood join Tyler Perry, who will host and narrate the two-hour event, as HNGN previously reported.

Screenwriter Peter Barsocchini ("High School Musical") and music producer Adam Anders ("Glee," "Rock of Ages") teamed up for the Dick Clark Productions-produced musical, with CMA Awards executive producer Robert Deaton serving as executive producer and showrunner.

"The Passion" is set to air live on Palm Sunday, March 20, at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
