"Scandal" will be taking a leap into the future when the Shondaland show returns for the second part of season 5 next month. The first episode back will feature a six-month time jump after the events of the winter finale of the show.

In the last episode of "Scandal," Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) broke off her relationship with President Fitzgerald (Tony Goldwyn), moved all of her things out of the White House and aborted her child with him. So where will all the characters stand after the time jump?

"Everybody has evolved into the next phase of their lives," Goldwyn told Entertainment Weekly. "Fitz is unfortunately alone without Mellie [Bellamy Young], without Olivia, and sort of without Cyrus [Jeff Perry] in the sense that the trust between Cyrus and Fitz is broken. Cyrus is still working for him, but it's a troubled situation, so Abby [Darby Stanchfield] is taking up that slack in terms of who he leans on, but Fitz is very much alone - the guy alone on the top of the hill."

While Fitz will try and concentrate on running the country, Goldwyn said that he thinks his character is still in love with Olivia.

"I think he's miserable, but he's not showing it. He's being very stoic," the actor said.

Olivia's abortion on "Scandal" marked a huge point in the relationship between Olivia and Fitz and Washington said she did not think her character would ever be the same again.

"She's definitely changed," Washington said Thursday at the Television Critics Association's press tour, where she was promoting her new HBO film "Confirmation," according to EW. "What happened at the end of the winter finale is a huge decision for her, and she's a different woman because of it."

The second half of the fifth season of "Scandal" returns Thursday, Feb. 11 at 9 p.m. ET, as HNGN previously reported.
