Kate Mansi has confirmed that she will be leaving "Days of Our Lives." The 28-year-old actress, who plays Abigail Deveraux on the popular soap opera, made the official announcement on Instagram on Wednesday.

"I've kept quiet as long as I could, but since it seems news has leaked, I feel I owe it to you all to set the record straight," she wrote. "Alright...here it is: After much thought, I've decided the timing was right for me to set sail from Salem. I must say that I have thoroughly enjoyed every single beautiful and messy moment of being Abigail, and will always treasure our time together. I want to be very clear in saying that this was not a decision I took lightly."

"It was important for me to see Abigail through the most recent storyline, as well as through the show's historic 50th anniversary celebration," she continued. "I can confidently say that I poured everything I had into Abigail, especially this last year, and cannot wait for you to see what's coming!"

She went on to thank her incredible fans and her "Days of Our Lives" family for the love and support they've shown her over the years, and she promised that we "won't want to miss what's coming."

Mansi's final episode will air in May, according to Us Weekly. She has only been on the long-running daytime series since 2011, even though her character has been around since 1992 when it was first portrayed by twin actresses Meghan and Michael Nelson. They were then taken over by twins Paige and Ryanne Kettner in December 1994. Megan Coletto then played Abigail in January 2001 until Jillian Clare took over in 2003. After that, Ashley Benson from "Pretty Little Liars" played the role from November 2004 until May 2007.

NBC has declined to comment on whether the role of Abigail will be recast once again.
