Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has to build on any momentum his team picked up after a 1-0 win over first place Leicester city on Boxing Day. And Klopp demanded his team to be tougher against Sunderland, according to the Express.

"We have no problem with character. The character of the team is great. Maybe you speak about mentality. That's what we have to create. You have to get stronger as a group, as a team, in situations like this. That's only works with common experiences - 'we did it, come on let's do it again,'" Klopp said.

Klopp is likely without striker Divick Origi who is suffering from a hamstring injury, according to the Liverpool Echo. Origi will join Daniel Sturridge on the sideline while the two try to return to match form.

The Liverpool projected starting XI, according to the Sports Mole:

Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno, Lucas, Henderson, Can, Coutinho, Firmino, Benteke

Sunderland comes into the match having lost the last four matches and only drawing two points in their last six. Manager Sam Allerdyce will make a last minute decision on captain John O'Shea, who suffered a torn calf muscle in a 4-1 Loss at Manchester City on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail.

Sunderland's projected XI according to Sports Mole:

Pantilimon, Coates, Brown, Jones, Van Aanholt, M'Vila, Cattermole, Gomez, Johnson, Defoe, Borini

Sunderland players don't need further motivation as they are desperate for their first win in 4 matches, Striker Fabian Borini made it clear he is ready to play against his former club, according to the Sunderland Echo.

"Yes, I'd like to score against Liverpool," Borini said. "More than anyone else. I've said everything I want to already about my time there."
