The New York Giants have officially been eliminated from the playoffs, and like the end of every season in New York that doesn't end with a postseason berth, many are left wondering about head coach Tom Coughlin's future with the team. The decision will reportedly come down to whether Coughlin decides to retire, and if he makes that choice, offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo reportedly could be a strong candidate to take over the position, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Quarterback Eli Manning's play has clicked with McAdoo's offensive game plan, and despite the lack of a running game and a makeshift offensive line, he has continued to play well. The Giants defense has clearly been the issue, and while defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo deserves some of the blame, it's clear when watching their games that the Giants are lacking talent on the defensive side of the ball. New York's defense is ranked last in the NFL in terms of yards per game, and general manager Jerry Reese clearly deserves some of the blame, given the lack of talent on the field.

The Giants reportedly could allure Saints head coach Sean Payton, and if the position opened up, New York could make a trade offer for the Super Bowl winning head coach. The Giants head-coaching position will be considered the best available position if it opens up, and the team could look within their own franchise in McAdoo as a potential next head coach if Coughlin chooses to retire.
