PetSmart has started selling ugly Christmas sweaters for cats and dogs, available both online and in stores. Festive pet owners are thrilled and have decked out their pets just in time for the holidays — and for the ugly sweater parties that have become trendy in the past few years. The sweaters are brightly colored, with festive messages and symbols like elves, mistletoe and snowmen.

"PetSmart's ugly sweaters for dogs and cats are among our top five best-selling holiday apparel items so far this season. We even have ugly sweaters for guinea pigs," said Eran Cohen, chief customer experience officer at PetSmart, according to the Associated Press.

"My non-cat lady friends definitely think I am crazy," said Catie Savage, a New Yorker whose two cats have an Instagram followed by 43,000 people. She definitely enjoys the sweaters more than the cats do, but said it makes it even funnier for her, according to the AP.

It's advisable to respect your pet's limits when it comes to silly outfits though. If they're clearly stressed by the clothes, don't bother dressing them. "Sometimes the putting on or taking off can cause static electricity, which would make the dog even more anxious the next time," said Dr. Bonnie Beaver, executive director of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists, according to the Associated Press.

However, if your pet is happy to be dressed up, head to PetSmart and grab an ugly sweater for this holiday season!
