U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's suggestion that Israel needed to become a binational state was rejected by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"The one-state solution is no solution at all for a secure, Jewish, democratic Israel living in peace, it is simply not a viable option," Kerry said, speaking at a conference on Israeli affairs in Washingto, D.C., on Dec. 5, reports ABC News.

Since the 1967 war and Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, the U.S., as well as the international community, has been pushing for a "two-state solution" with the creation of a nation where Jews and Palestinians lived together to create an environment of long-term peace, reports U.S. News.

"Israel will not be a binational state, but in order to have peace, the other side needs to decide that it wants peace as well," said Netanyahu during his weekly cabinet meeting on Dec. 6, rejecting Kerry's suggestion, reports New York Daily News.
