Gideon Malick has some bad news for Jemma Simmons in the fall finale of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." - Fitz is going to die.

On last week's episode, Malick (Powers Boothe) sent Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) on a Grant Ward (Brett Dalton)-led mission to retrieve a deadly beast through the portal to the planet where Jemma (Elizabeth Henstridge) found herself trapped for six months. Fitz was to serve as a navigator to bring the team back safely when the portal reopened, but Malick has other plans.

"Death is the only thing returning through that portal. Fitz is just an offering to show him the door," he tells Jemma in a clip from the final episode before the winter hiatus.

What a dirty trick!

Back at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, Mack is having a tough first day as interim director. First, Coulson (Clark Gregg) dove out of a Quinjet and through the portal and then Hydra had at least 12 Inhumans shipped into their heavily fortified based where Simmons is still being held hostage.

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s own Inhuman, Joey Gutierrez (Juan Pablo Raba), wants to know which of the three problems is going to take priority and Hunter (Nick Blood) explains how plans usually get made by the agency.

"This is how S.H.I.E.L.D. works. You make a plan and when the plan turns to rubbish, you make a new plan," he says and then adds, "Oh, just to be crystal clear, this is the part where the plan turns to rubbish."
