The death of Rosalind Price may be the straw that broke the camel's back for Phil Coulson, who relinquished his duties as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. to go after his biggest nemesis, Grant Ward, on this week's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

The ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent (Brett Dalton) made quick work of Rosalind (Constance Zimmer) with a sniper shot to the head while she and Coulson (Clark Gregg) finally found the time to enjoy a couple of burgers together. After fighting off a few of Ward's goons, Coulson escaped back to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters and planned his revenge.

By the end of the episode, Coulson was dropping out of the Quinjet through the portal below where Ward was leading a mission into the other universe. The fall finale will see Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. go head-to-head in a battle that will change Coulson's world forever.

"It's going to get worse before it gets better. It will get darker," Gregg told The Hollywood Reporter. "What has been unleashed by the events of tonight's episode is not something that is going to be resolved quickly or easily. This determined, enraged Agent Coulson is going to be around for a while."

Coulson will eventually find Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), who was also dragged through the portal to help Ward navigate in the other world. The two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents will learn more about Ward and the planet's roaming creature, known only as "it," that Hydra wants to bring back to Earth. Whether Coulson gets his revenge on Ward in another universe or back on Earth remains a mystery.

The midseason finale of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will air on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
