Twitter is likely to shut down its #Music app after being in business for only six months, however, it will not shift focus away from its musical pursuits.

Twitter Inc., one of the most prominent micro blogging sites, is on the verge of killing its own #Music app but it is unclear when the move is likely to take place. While it is not a secret that Twitter is revamping its music business, it will certainly be a smart move to get rid of its mobile music streaming application in the wake of the recent downtrend.

Twitter #Music app was launched in April with an agenda to change the way people find and share new songs online. Despite a strong debut, the mobile application failed to find a recognizable place in the music business. Now, sources familiar with the matter have disclosed to AllThingsD that the app will soon be silenced, but it is unknown when it is likely to happen.

The music application was created under the supervision of Twitter business development leader Kevin Thau, and built by the team behind "We Are Hunted," a music discovery service acquired by Twitter late last year. The #Music app brings personalized music recommendations based on users' interests shared on the social network. The app was praised by several users following its release but most seemed unaware of its existence. Shortly after the launch of the app, Thau left the company to join Jelly as the CEO.

According to recent analysis by Onavo, Twitter #Music holds the 1,672 position in its own rankings as of August. Another analysis by AppAnnie also suggests similar results, placing the app in the 264 place in the iTunes Music app category.

In a competitive music industry, appealing to users's tastes is important. Attracting music lovers from their traditional services to a new one can be a difficult task. While Twitter failed to do so, Apple iTunes Radio did remarkably well. But giants in the industry, like Pandora, still dominate the market. For people to use the app, it must stand out and must be heard widely.

Twitter may have lost its way, but it does not plan to give up on its musical interests. Twitter is in the midst of revamping its music team, the tech site reports.

Last month, Twitter hired Topspin Media SVP Bob Moczydlowsky as the new head for its music department. Furthermore, Twitter is partnering with Apple and Rdio to further its hold in the music business.
